Stanley Tipungwuti is a Tiwi ranger who worked on the eradication programme targeting tropical fire ants on Melville Island in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The fire ant operation formed part of broader biosecurity efforts to protect the Tiwi Islands’ native ecosystems from invasive species. Rangers combined traditional land management knowledge with contemporary pest control methods to locate and eliminate fire ant nests across remote terrain.
