Central and South America.

Central and South America encompasses the landmass extending from the southern border of Mexico through the Panama isthmus and down to the southern tip of the South American continent. The region includes diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforests and cloud forests to the Andes mountain range, the Amazon basin, and Patagonian steppe.

This vast geographical area is significant in conservation contexts as the native range of numerous invasive species that have spread to other continents through global trade and travel, affecting ecosystems far from their points of origin.

Central and South America appears in Field Notes: Tiwi rangers complete eradication of tropical fire ants from Melville Island, where the region is noted as the original habitat of the invasive ant species.
