Laura Bingham (born 1993) is an English explorer known for leading the first complete descent of Guyana’s Essequibo River, one of South America’s least-explored waterways.
Bingham’s 2016 expedition navigated the Essequibo from its source to the Atlantic, traversing territory rarely visited by outsiders and forging connections with indigenous communities along the route. The journey earned her recognition alongside explorers including Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ed Stafford and Tim Peake when she appeared on the cover of British Airways High Life magazine in 2017, where she was designated “The Adventurer”. Her work combines physical expedition with cultural documentation, particularly her interactions with the Waiwai people of the Guyanese interior.
Bingham has appeared twice on Adventure Diaries: in the episode with Laura Bingham where she recounts how the Waiwai named her their first female warrior, and in the episode covering wild tales from the jungles of Guyana.
