Larapinta Trail.

The Larapinta Trail is a 223-kilometre walking track in Australia’s Northern Territory, running east to west from Alice Springs to Mount Sonder through the West MacDonnell Ranges.

The trail traverses West MacDonnell National Park, alternating between ridge-line sections along the ranges and stretches across the plains below. Mount Sonder, at the western terminus, ranks among the Northern Territory’s highest peaks. The route offers access to one of Australia’s most ancient landscapes, where the spine of the MacDonnell Ranges cuts through the red centre’s semi-arid country. Long-distance walkers typically complete the trail in sections over two to three weeks, navigating exposed ridges, seasonal waterholes and the stark temperature swings of the central Australian desert.
