The Volcanic Seven Summits are the highest volcanoes on each of the seven continents — a volcanic counterpart to the mountaineering challenge of climbing the Seven Summits, the tallest peaks on each continent.
Two mountains appear on both lists: Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe were formed volcanically and also happen to be the highest peaks of their respective continents. The remaining Volcanic Seven Summits consist purely of volcanic peaks that fall short of being the absolute continental high points but stand as the tallest volcanoes in their regions. The challenge appeals to climbers drawn to the intersection of mountaineering and geology, summiting peaks shaped by fire rather than tectonic uplift alone. Each volcano carries its own climbing character, from technical alpine routes to high-altitude treks across volcanic scree and ice.
