African Wildlife Foundation.

The African Wildlife Foundation is an international conservation organisation focused on preserving Africa’s wildlife, wild lands and natural resources.

Founded in 1961, AWF has played a formative role in building Africa’s conservation capacity. The organisation helped establish two landmark training institutions: the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka in Tanzania, and the Ecole de Faune de Garoua in Cameroon. Both have trained generations of wildlife managers and park rangers across the continent. AWF operates on the principle that conservation must generate economic benefit to be sustainable, working with governments and businesses to develop conservation-based revenue models. This approach recognises that protected areas and wildlife can drive tourism income and support local livelihoods, aligning ecological protection with human development needs across African nations.
