The Wales Coast Path is a designated long-distance footpath that follows the entire coastline of Wales, running 870 miles (1,400 kilometres) from the English border in the north-east to Chepstow in the south-east.
Launched in 2012, the trail was the first dedicated coast path in the world to cover the complete coastline of a country. The route passes through eleven national nature reserves and other protected sites managed by organisations including the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and The Wildlife Trusts, offering access to coastal habitats, seabird colonies and maritime landscapes. The path connects existing sections of coastal trail and new stretches built specifically for the project, making it possible to walk the Welsh shore in its entirety. Its Welsh name is Llwybr Arfordir Cymru.
