Alexander Megos is a German rock climber who competes internationally and specialises in sport climbing and bouldering. Born on 12 August 1993, he is known for establishing benchmarks in difficulty across both disciplines.
In 2013, Megos became the first climber to onsight a route graded 9a (5.14d), a milestone that redefined expectations at the upper limits of the sport. He has since completed first free ascents of some of the world’s hardest sport routes, including two at the grade 9b+ (5.15c) — Perfecto Mundo and Bibliographie — and five at 9b (5.15b), among them Fight Club, Ratstaman Vibrations and The Full Journey. He has also sent two boulder problems graded 8C (V15). His approach combines physical precision with an ability to read sequences quickly, skills honed through years of competition climbing alongside his work on rock.
Megos appears in Field Notes coverage of Janja Garnbret’s ascent of Bibliographie at Céüse, a route he first freed.
