The Secrets.

The Secrets were an American girl group from Cleveland, Ohio, active in the early to mid-1960s.

Originally performing as The Sonnets—named after the Sonnet manufactured piano—the group was discovered by talent scout Redda Robbins while supporting local band the Starfires. Through connections with songwriters Johnny Madara and David White, they secured a deal with Philips Records and released “The Boy Next Door” in 1963, which climbed to number 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 that December. The group was scheduled to appear on American Bandstand the weekend of 22 November 1963, but the performance was cancelled following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. They went on to become the last act to appear on the show in Philadelphia before it relocated to Los Angeles in spring 1964. Three further singles followed, none charting, and The Secrets disbanded in 1965. Members Patty Miller and Carole McGoldrick performed briefly as the Memories before the group reunited for their high school reunion in the early 1990s and later for a Pride of Cleveland Past concert in the early 2000s. Carole McGoldrick died on 16 June 2010.
