Protect Our Winters is a nonprofit organisation that campaigns for climate action through law reform and civic engagement, with headquarters in Boulder, Colorado.
Founded as a 501(c)(3), POW mobilises the outdoor recreation community — from skiers and snowboarders to climbers and hikers — to advocate for environmental legislation. The organisation focuses policy efforts on carbon pricing, renewable solar energy, public lands protection and sustainable transport. It shares research from climate scientists and runs campaigns aimed at both lawmakers and outdoor enthusiasts who witness climate impacts first-hand: shrinking glaciers, shortened winters, unstable weather. Financial backing comes from brands embedded in adventure culture, including The North Face, Patagonia and CLIF Bar, alongside foundations, resorts and individual supporters. Torrey Udall serves as interim executive director.
