Isle of Man is a land mass in the Cataraqui River, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, northeast of Kingston. Despite its name, it remains connected to the eastern bank by a land bridge.
The feature sits within a network of waterways and wetlands characteristic of southeastern Ontario’s freshwater geography. The Cataraqui River, which links the Great Lakes basin to the St Lawrence watershed, has shaped a complex riparian landscape where such semi-detached formations occur. The misnomer reflects a common pattern in Canadian toponymy, where features named during early settlement or exploration retained their original designations even as channels silted, water levels changed, or artificial causeways were built.
Isle of Man appears in Episode: Into the wilds of the Okavango Delta, with Olly Pemberton.
