Gordon Buchanan.

Gordon Buchanan is a Scottish wildlife cameraman, filmmaker and presenter born on 10 April 1972. He specialises in intimate, immersive documentaries that bring viewers close to some of the world’s most elusive and dangerous animals.

Buchanan’s work includes Tribes, Predators & Me, in which he lived alongside remote communities to understand their relationships with apex predators, and The Bear Family & Me and The Polar Bear Family & Me, which documented bear behaviour with unprecedented access. His series Life in the Snow explored how wildlife survives in the planet’s coldest environments. His approach combines technical skill behind the camera with a naturalist’s patience and a storyteller’s eye for narrative, often spending weeks or months in the field to capture behaviour rarely witnessed. Through his films, Buchanan has helped shape public understanding of threatened species and the fragile ecosystems they inhabit, making complex conservation challenges accessible to broad audiences.
