Impossible Dream is a two-minute television commercial produced by Honda for the UK market, first broadcast on 2 December 2005. It formed the centrepiece of the company’s “Power of Dreams” campaign.
Written by Sean Thompson and Chris Groom, and creatively directed by Tony Davidson and Kim Papworth, the film follows an actor (Simon Paisley Day) singing, riding and driving a succession of vintage Honda motorcycles and cars across three continents. Filming locations included the coastal roads of New Zealand, the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan, and the surroundings of Iguazu Falls in South America. The panoramic treatment showcased both the machinery and the landscapes through which Honda’s founder had imagined his products travelling. The campaign was supported by a website offering detailed histories of the vehicles featured, linking engineering heritage to the wider idea of exploration and movement across open terrain.
