Benki Piyãko is a leader of the Ashaninka Indigenous people in Acre state, Brazil, and founder of the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute. The organisation works to preserve Ashaninka cultural knowledge and promote sustainable development in the western Amazon.
The Ashaninka are one of the largest Indigenous groups in South America, with communities spanning the Brazil–Peru border region. Piyãko’s institute serves as a centre for environmental education and Indigenous cultural transmission, combining traditional ecological knowledge with contemporary conservation approaches in one of the Amazon’s most biodiverse and threatened regions.
