El Niño is a city in Tijuana Municipality, Baja California, Mexico. As of 2010, the population stood at 8,999.
The city lies within the northern Mexican state that borders California and forms part of the densely populated Tijuana metropolitan area. Baja California occupies a peninsula that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of California, a landscape defined by desert scrub, coastal mountains and the transition zone where temperate and subtropical ecosystems meet. The municipality of Tijuana encompasses both the major border city and smaller surrounding communities such as El Niño.
