Loch Awe.

Loch Awe is a large freshwater lake in Argyll and Bute in the Scottish Highlands. It drains westward via the River Awe.

The loch lies in one of Scotland’s more remote stretches of Highland country, its shores scattered with islands including Innis Chonnell and Inishail. A village of the same name sits on its banks. The Scottish Gaelic name is Loch Obha, though historic anglicisations include Lochawe, Lochaw and Lochow. As with many Scottish lochs, Loch Awe occupies a glacially carved trough, its waters draining through steep-sided valleys to the Atlantic coast. The surrounding landscape is typical of the western Highlands: birch and oak remnants on lower slopes, open moorland above, and a coastline where mountains meet the sea.
